A Letter from the Owner

Welcome to S&R Remodeling! My name is Scott Nyland, and I founded the company over 20 years ago at age 21.

After graduating from Siren High School in northwestern Wisconsin and completing the Facility Maintenance program at Wisconsin Grantsburg Technical School, I began a job working on a sewer crew.  In addition, I installed furnaces and water wells.  I also operated the retail store for Don Daniel Construction in Superior, WI on Saturdays.   Although I earned just $3.50 an hour, it was an opportunity to figure out that I loved learning how to successfully execute a variety of  jobs.  One year later, I returned to my early childhood home of Madison where I worked three jobs during the week, and on the weekends, I did painting and small repairs.

For the first 14 years after starting S&R Remodeling, I worked 80 hours each week in the field.  With each year that passed, I prided myself more and more on quality work. Although I now spend more time in the office overseeing the day-to-day tasks of   business, I still take great pride in making sure all jobs are completed with quality craftsmanship.
Today, S&R Remodeling has seven full-time employees.  Some have been on the job over six years!  Employees are treated well.  Because of this, they have great attitudes when they show up to work on your home or business.

Every employee is trained to have the same sense of pride in getting the job done right that I have.  We know you expect a high quality, thoroughly completed job, so when we sign a contract, we agree to do that job with the utmost professionalism taking care to complete it on time (barring obstacles outside our control).

It is also our belief bouncing from one job to another is less efficient and unprofessional, so we complete one job before starting the next.  While there are occasional “down” times during projects, S&R Remodeling tries to keep that time to a minimum.
We use drop cloths to protect floors when we are going in and out.  We carry vacuums, brooms, rags, and many cleaning supplies. We clean up the job site every day and do extra cleaning on the final day. We want your project to look new when it is completed!

Because we appreciate and value our customers, S&R Remodeling has never had a complaint with the Better Business Bureau or any other such agency.  Our goal is to keep you as a customer for your lifetime.  Many of our customers have been using S&R Remodeling for over a decade.  Behind that loyalty is my promise not to leave your job until it’s completed at the same level of quality I’d expect in my own home.
We promise to take very good care of you and your property.

Scott Nyland

P.S. - S&R Remodeling will do your small residential or commercial projects as well as your large jobs.  We do most of the work ourselves and subcontract only the licensed trades and craft skills that are outside our specialty.  S&R has won the Dane County repair contract the last three out of four years

Construction Tips

Compare Apples to Apples in Construction Quotes

When getting quotes for a construction or remodeling project, make sure you are comparing apples to apples. Ask all potential contractors to quote your remodeling project using the same construction materials as other contractors who are quoting. Not all building materials are the same - and some contractors use inferior products to slip in with the lowest bid.
--Get all remodeling contractors to create their quotes using specified construction materials

Ask for photos of past construction work

Ask potential contractors for images of completed construction or remodeling projects that you can see. Don't be afraid to ask to speak to past references. If it's possible, visit a complete remodeling or construction site where you can see the quality and craftsmanship first hand.
