Choosing Deck Building Materials
Decks built from treated materials are the least expensive. They can be painted or stained to your liking, as long as you first let them weather for one year. Depending on how you paint or stain your deck, the right color can make the finish look amazing. Treated decking shrinks after install so we install the boards tightly.
From a cost standpoint, Cedar decks are “middle of the road”. Cedar can be finished right away and they will not shrink as much as treated materials do.
Composite material is the most expensive of all decking, but it also lasts the longest. Composite decks are maintenance free, and you can choose from several colors and brands.
If you consider the cost of staining & painting every few years, composite materials are a very reasonable option. You may even save money over time if you use composite materials – especially if you need to hire a contractor to stain or paint your deck.
